Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>The purpose of this Policy is to establish the framework for local educational programmes and public awareness initiatives organized by the University of Thessaly on the topics of climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning systems. The University seeks to strengthen the local community\u2019s knowledge and capacity to respond effectively to the challenges posed by climate change.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Scope<\/h3>\n<p>This Policy applies to all outreach and educational initiatives conducted by the University of Thessaly, including lifelong learning programmes, public lectures, exhibitions, school collaborations, environmental campaigns, and workshops with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups. The Policy covers all campuses and regional units of the University of Thessaly.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Legal and Institutional Context<\/h3>\n<p>This Policy aligns with: Law 4936\/2022 (National Climate Law); Law 4692\/2020 (Environmental Education and Sustainability); Law 4009\/2011 (Higher Education Framework); EU Green Deal and Climate Adaptation Strategy (2021); Paris Agreement (2015); and UN SDGs 4, 11, 13, and 17.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Policy Statement<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The University of Thessaly shall design and implement local education and public engagement programmes addressing climate change and sustainability.<br \/>\n2. Programmes will cover key themes including climate change science, adaptation and mitigation strategies, renewable energy, biodiversity, and early warning systems.<br \/>\n3. Educational activities will be developed in collaboration with schools, municipalities, NGOs, and community organizations.<br \/>\n4. Public campaigns shall promote practical solutions for emission reduction, energy conservation, and sustainable lifestyles.<br \/>\n5. The University shall integrate climate awareness education into its lifelong learning portfolio and outreach plan.<br \/>\n6. Priority shall be given to vulnerable groups and rural communities most affected by climate impacts.<br \/>\n7. All programmes shall be accessible, inclusive, and free to the public where possible.<br \/>\n8. The University will publish annual reports summarizing educational activities, participation rates, and community impact.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>5. Implementation and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; The coordinates climate education programmes.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Department of Environmental Engineering and the School of Agricultural Sciences lead academic content development.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Lifelong Learning Center organizes public courses and workshops.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Public Relations Office manages outreach and communications.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Sustainability Committee monitors effectiveness and strategic alignment.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Monitoring and Review<\/h3>\n<p>Programme outcomes will be assessed annually through participation data, feedback surveys, and environmental impact indicators. This Policy will be reviewed every three (3) years or earlier if new national or international frameworks are introduced.<\/p>\n<h3>7.
