Shared Climate Action Policy<\/h3>\n

1. Purpose<\/h3>\n

The purpose of this Policy is to define the University of Thessaly\u2019s strategic framework for collaborative climate action, developed jointly with local government authorities and community organizations. The Policy aims to strengthen partnerships that address climate change risks, promote resilience, and support regional sustainability.<\/p>\n

2. Scope<\/h3>\n

This Policy applies to all University departments, research centers, and administrative units, and extends to partnerships with local and regional government bodies, municipal authorities, civil protection units, NGOs, and community organizations.<\/p>\n

3. Legal and Institutional Context<\/h3>\n

This Policy aligns with: Law 4936\/2022 (National Climate Law); Law 3852\/2010 (‘Kallikratis’ Framework on Local Governance); Law 4412\/2016 (Public Cooperation and Procurement); EU Climate Law (Regulation (EU) 2021\/1119); EU Green Deal (2021); Paris Agreement (2015); and UN SDGs 11, 13, and 17.<\/p>\n

4. Policy Statement<\/h3>\n

  1. The University of Thessaly commits to developing and maintaining a shared Climate Action Policy in partnership with local and regional authorities.
    \n2. The shared policy defines joint objectives for emission reduction, adaptation, and resilience.
    \n3. The University collaborates with municipalities to assess climate risks, design emission reduction strategies, and co-develop adaptation plans.
    \n4. Joint actions include education campaigns, research initiatives, and the integration of climate priorities in infrastructure projects.
    \n5. A Climate Action Liaison Office coordinates stakeholder collaboration.
    \n6. Annual Climate Action Forums review progress and update shared commitments.
    \n7. An annual Climate Action Report summarises outcomes and policy developments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    5. Implementation and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n

    – The Rector oversees coordination.
    \n– The Climate Action Liaison Office manages communication with local partners.
    \n– The Departments of Environmental Engineering and Planning & Regional Development provide expertise.
    \n– The Sustainability Committee evaluates progress and ensures policy integration.
    \n– Local authorities collaborate on joint implementation and reporting.<\/p>\n

    6. Monitoring and Review<\/h3>\n

    The shared Climate Action Policy will be reviewed every three (3) years through joint evaluation with municipal and regional partners. Progress indicators include emissions reduction, adaptation measures, and public engagement levels.<\/p>\n
