{"id":795,"date":"2025-11-07T18:58:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T16:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdg.uth.gr\/?page_id=795"},"modified":"2025-11-09T23:17:30","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T21:17:30","slug":"6-5-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sdg.uth.gr\/en\/6-5-1\/","title":{"rendered":"6.5.1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Water Management Educational Opportunities Policy<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Thessaly (UTh) is committed to advancing education, research, and community engagement in sustainable water management.<\/p>\n<p>This policy establishes a framework for developing and promoting educational programs, training opportunities, and outreach initiatives focused on the protection, conservation, and responsible use of water resources.<\/p>\n<p>Purpose<\/p>\n<p>This policy aims to:<\/p>\n<p>Integrate sustainable water management into academic curricula across all relevant disciplines;<\/p>\n<p>Provide training and professional development opportunities for students, faculty, and external stakeholders;<\/p>\n<p>Promote interdisciplinary research on water technologies, hydrology, wastewater treatment, and policy;<\/p>\n<p>Enhance public awareness and community participation in sustainable water use;<\/p>\n<p>Align with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).<\/p>\n<p>Legal and Strategic Framework<\/p>\n<p>This policy aligns with:<\/p>\n<p>Law 4957\/2022, Article 87 (missions of universities to promote education and sustainable development);<\/p>\n<p>Law 3199\/2003 on integrated water management;<\/p>\n<p>EU Water Framework Directive 2000\/60\/EC;<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO Water Education Framework (IHP \u2013 International Hydrological Programme); and<\/p>\n<p>The University of Thessaly Sustainability and Education for Sustainable Development Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Scope<\/p>\n<p>This policy applies to:<\/p>\n<p>All academic departments and research units engaged in water-related disciplines;<\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty, and researchers participating in educational or community programs;<\/p>\n<p>Lifelong learning centers, continuing education platforms, and online education initiatives managed by the University.<\/p>\n<p>Key Provisions<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Curricular Integration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Undergraduate and postgraduate programs shall incorporate modules and courses related to:<\/p>\n<p>Water resource management, hydrology, irrigation, and wastewater treatment;<\/p>\n<p>Water governance, policy, and environmental economics;<\/p>\n<p>Water and climate change adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>Courses may be offered in Greek and English to encourage international participation.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Professional Training and Certification<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The University will organize specialized seminars, workshops, and certification programs on sustainable water management for:<\/p>\n<p>Students of engineering, environmental, and agricultural sciences;<\/p>\n<p>Public sector employees and private professionals;<\/p>\n<p>Local community members and NGOs.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The University supports joint research projects among departments (Engineering, Agriculture, Environment, Economics) focused on:<\/p>\n<p>Water reuse technologies,<\/p>\n<p>Smart metering systems,<\/p>\n<p>Agricultural water efficiency,<\/p>\n<p>Hydrological modeling and flood resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Research outputs shall be published openly to contribute to global knowledge.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Community Engagement and Outreach<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The University will host public lectures, awareness campaigns, and exhibitions promoting water sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration with local municipalities, schools, and NGOs will encourage knowledge exchange and citizen science.<\/p>\n<p>Educational resources will be made freely accessible through the University\u2019s Lifelong Learning Platform.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Student Involvement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students will be encouraged to participate in internships, fieldwork, and volunteer programs related to water conservation.<\/p>\n<p>Annual student competitions and innovation awards will recognize outstanding water-related projects.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Monitoring and Reporting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Technical Services Office, in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, will monitor implementation.<\/p>\n<p>An annual Water Education and Research Report will summarize teaching activities, outreach participation, and impact indicators.<\/p>\n<p>Governance<\/p>\n<p>Responsible Authority: Rector.<\/p>\n<p>Operational Oversight: Technical Services Office.<\/p>\n<p>Academic Partners: Departments of Civil Engineering, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Community Partners: Regional and local water authorities, municipalities, and civil organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Review<\/p>\n<p>This policy will be reviewed every three years or earlier in alignment with updates to national education and sustainability legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Through this policy, the University of Thessaly reinforces its dual mission as a leader in education and a catalyst for sustainable water management, locally and globally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Water Management Educational Opportunities Policy The University of Thessaly (UTh) is committed to advancing education, research, and community engagement in sustainable water management.
