{"id":807,"date":"2025-11-07T19:04:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T17:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdg.uth.gr\/?page_id=807"},"modified":"2025-11-09T23:37:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T21:37:07","slug":"6-5-5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sdg.uth.gr\/en\/6-5-5\/","title":{"rendered":"6.5.5"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Cooperation on Water Security Policy<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Thessaly (UTh) is committed to fostering collaboration, partnerships, and joint initiatives that enhance water security, climate resilience, and sustainable water management at the local, national, and international levels.<\/p>\n<p>This policy defines the framework for establishing and maintaining cooperative actions and research partnerships aimed at securing safe, reliable, and equitable access to water for all.<\/p>\n<p>Purpose<\/p>\n<p>This policy aims to:<\/p>\n<p>Promote multilevel cooperation on water security and sustainability;<\/p>\n<p>Strengthen scientific and institutional partnerships for water research and management;<\/p>\n<p>Support knowledge transfer, capacity building, and technology sharing;<\/p>\n<p>Align UTh\u2019s research and outreach activities with national and global water security goals;<\/p>\n<p>Reinforce the University\u2019s contribution to SDG 6, SDG 11, and SDG 17.<\/p>\n<p>Legal and Strategic Framework<\/p>\n<p>This policy is consistent with:<\/p>\n<p>Law 4957\/2022, Articles 87 and 88 (university contribution to sustainable development and regional cooperation);<\/p>\n<p>Law 3199\/2003 (Integrated Water Resources Management);<\/p>\n<p>EU Water Framework Directive 2000\/60\/EC;<\/p>\n<p>UN Water Security Agenda;<\/p>\n<p>European Union Strategy on Climate Adaptation (2021); and<\/p>\n<p>the University of Thessaly Sustainability and Internationalization Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Scope<\/p>\n<p>This policy applies to:<\/p>\n<p>All academic departments, research centers, and laboratories engaging in water-related research or community projects;<\/p>\n<p>Institutional partnerships with public authorities, international organizations, NGOs, and private sector entities;<\/p>\n<p>Educational and training programs related to water security, risk management, and sustainable governance.<\/p>\n<p>Key Provisions<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Partnership Development<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>UTh will actively pursue partnerships with municipalities, regional authorities, and international organizations for joint water security projects.<\/p>\n<p>Priority areas include climate adaptation, flood risk mitigation, drought management, and safe drinking water access.<\/p>\n<p>The University shall engage in memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and framework agreements to formalize cooperation.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Joint Research and Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The University encourages multidisciplinary and cross-border research on hydrology, climate resilience, and water policy.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in EU-funded programs such as Horizon Europe, Interreg, LIFE, and Erasmus+ Capacity Building will be prioritized.<\/p>\n<p>Collaborative projects will integrate scientific research, social policy, and technology development.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>UTh will organize training programs, symposia, and summer schools to enhance knowledge on water management and security.<\/p>\n<p>The University shall offer open access educational materials and online learning resources for public use.<\/p>\n<p>Joint postgraduate and doctoral programs on Integrated Water Security and Resilience will be developed with partner institutions.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Community and Regional Cooperation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The University shall support regional authorities, schools, and local communities in water management planning and awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Emphasis will be given to agricultural water efficiency, drought prevention, and water reuse technologies in Thessaly and nearby regions.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>International Collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>UTh will participate in global water networks such as UNESCO-IHP, GWP (Global Water Partnership), and UN-Water initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration will focus on the exchange of best practices and joint contribution to policy dialogue on global water security.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Monitoring and Reporting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Technical Services Office will maintain a record of cooperative actions, research outcomes, and international participation.<\/p>\n<p>Annual reports will summarize:<\/p>\n<p>Number of partnerships and projects,<\/p>\n<p>Participating entities and countries,<\/p>\n<p>Measurable impact indicators on water security.<\/p>\n<p>Governance<\/p>\n<p>Responsible Authority: Rector<\/p>\n<p>Operational Oversight: Technical Services Office<\/p>\n<p>Scientific Advisors: Departments of Civil Engineering, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences<\/p>\n<p>External Partners: Municipalities, Regional Water Authorities, NGOs, and International Academic Networks<\/p>\n<p>Review<\/p>\n<p>This policy shall be reviewed every three years or earlier in response to new environmental challenges, research developments, or legislative changes.<\/p>\n<p>Through this framework, the University of Thessaly strengthens its role as a regional and international leader in water security, committed to science, sustainability, and societal well-being.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cooperation on Water Security Policy The University of Thessaly (UTh) is committed to fostering collaboration, partnerships, and joint initiatives that enhance water security, climate resilience, and sustainable water management at the local, national, and international levels.
