Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>The purpose of this Policy is to ensure that admission to all academic programs at the University of Thessaly (UTh) is conducted in a fair, transparent, and inclusive manner. The Policy aligns explicitly with Article 4 of Law 4186\/2013 (Government Gazette A\u0384193\/17.09.2013), which governs access to higher education in Greece, establishing merit-based, transparent, and equal opportunity principles for student admissions. Admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs is ruled by regulations of the respective programs, which all are consistent with the above general Policy of UTh. This Policy reaffirms the University\u2019s commitment to equality and non-discrimination in accordance with national and European standards.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Scope<\/h3>\n<p>This Policy applies to all undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs offered by the University of Thessaly, as well as to exchange, mobility, and special admission programs. It covers all stages of the admissions process, including application, evaluation, selection, enrollment, and registration.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Definitions<\/h3>\n<p>Discrimination: Any action or decision that results in unfair or unequal treatment of an individual or group based on personal characteristics unrelated to academic merit or eligibility.<br \/>\nEqual Opportunity: The assurance that every applicant is evaluated solely on academic and relevant criteria without bias or prejudice.<br \/>\nReasonable Accommodation: Adjustments made to ensure that applicants with disabilities can participate equally in the admissions process without compromising academic standards.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Policy Statement<\/h3>\n<p>In line with Article 4 of Law 4186\/2013, the University of Thessaly guarantees that admissions to all higher education programs are based solely on merit, objective criteria, and transparent procedures. The University explicitly prohibits any form of discrimination based on gender, age, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. Admission decisions are founded on academic performance, qualifications, and the potential for success in the chosen program. The University shall ensure that examination and evaluation processes are standardized and accessible, consistent with national regulations governing entry to higher education. Applicants with disabilities or special educational needs shall be provided with reasonable accommodations to ensure equal opportunity. Staff involved in admissions shall receive regular training in equality legislation, implicit bias awareness, and fair evaluation practices.<\/p>\n<p>Admission of Members of the Muslim Minority:<br \/>\nIn accordance with Article 4 of Law 4186\/2013 and national provisions ensuring equitable representation, the University of Thessaly recognizes the right of members of the Muslim minority of Thrace to access higher education through reserved admission quotas and support mechanisms. The University is committed to providing guidance, preparatory resources, and an inclusive academic environment that fosters cultural understanding and integration, ensuring that all minority students can thrive academically and socially.<\/p>\n<p>Admission of Students with Disabilities:<br \/>\nThe University guarantees equal access to education for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses in accordance with Law 3699\/2008 and Law 4186\/2013. Reasonable accommodations are provided throughout the admissions process, examinations, and course participation, including accessible digital platforms, physical infrastructure, and adapted learning materials. The University\u2019s Accessibility Unit collaborates with departments to ensure individualized academic support and the removal of any barriers to participation.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Implementation and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<p>The University is responsible for ensuring compliance with this Policy across all academic units. The Rector oversees adherence to the provisions of Article 4 of Law 4186\/2013 and ensures that admissions processes remain transparent and equitable. The University monitors admission outcomes, evaluates fairness, and submits annual reports to the Governing Council. The Governing Council holds ultimate responsibility for approving revisions and ensuring institutional accountability.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Monitoring and Review<\/h3>\n<p>The University shall conduct annual reviews of admission statistics to assess inclusivity, accessibility, and compliance with Article 4 of Law 4186\/2013. This Policy shall be reviewed every three (3) years or earlier if required by legislative changes or institutional developments.<\/p>\n<h3>7.
