Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>The purpose of this Policy is to affirm the University of Thessaly\u2019s commitment to providing public access to its museums, art galleries, cultural collections, and exhibition spaces, recognizing their role as public assets that promote education, culture, and community engagement. The University\u2019s collections, including the Belasi Collection and the Kitsos Makris Folk Art Center, are central to its mission to preserve and share knowledge of Greek and international art and folk culture.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Scope<\/h3>\n<p>This Policy applies to all museums, galleries, archives, and art collections managed by the University of Thessaly, including: the Belasi Collection, the Kitsos Makris Folk Art Center, university exhibition spaces, and affiliated public cultural spaces. It covers both physical and digital access, including online exhibitions and digitized archives.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Legal and Institutional Context<\/h3>\n<p>Public access to the University\u2019s museums and art collections is ensured in accordance with: Law 4485\/2017 (Framework for Higher Education); Law 3028\/2002 (Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage); Law 4305\/2014 (Open Data and Access to Public Information); Greek Constitution (Article 16) on the promotion of arts and science; UNESCO Convention (1970) and Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003); and the University of Thessaly\u2019s Policies on Accessibility and Public Engagement.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Policy Statement<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The University of Thessaly guarantees free public access to its museums, art collections, and cultural centers, including the Belasi Collection and the Kitsos Makris Folk Art Center.<br \/>\n2. All museum and exhibition spaces shall be open to the general public during established visiting hours without admission fees.<br \/>\n3. Digital access to catalogues, archives, and virtual exhibitions shall be maintained on the University\u2019s cultural heritage platforms.<br \/>\n4. The University promotes community participation, educational visits, and cultural events in collaboration with schools, municipalities, and cultural organizations.<br \/>\n5. Exhibition spaces shall be designed and maintained in accordance with Article 26 of Law 4067\/2012 on accessibility.<br \/>\n6. Curatorial practices shall adhere to ethical standards, including provenance documentation, conservation integrity, and respect for cultural property.<br \/>\n7. The University shall ensure proper preservation and security of artworks, archives, and folk artefacts.<br \/>\n8. Public programs shall emphasize inclusivity, lifelong learning, and engagement with contemporary issues.<br \/>\n9. Temporary exhibitions and cultural events shall remain free and open to all, unless specific funding agreements dictate otherwise.<br \/>\n10. The University encourages the digital dissemination of its collections under open-access principles, consistent with intellectual property and cultural protection laws.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>5. Implementation and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; The Rector oversees the implementation of this Policy.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Public Relations Office and Museum Directors manage day-to-day access, programming, and visitor engagement.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Department of Architecture and the Department of History, Archaeology, and Social Anthropology collaborate in preservation and interpretation efforts.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Public Relations Office maintains digital access to exhibitions and public outreach materials.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Monitoring and Review<\/h3>\n<p>The Public Relations Office shall prepare an annual report on visitor numbers, public engagement activities, and accessibility compliance. This Policy shall be reviewed every three (3) years or earlier if legislative or operational changes occur.<\/p>\n<h3>7.
